Poetry & Songs
song Smile
A Smile is Quite a Funny Thing

A smile is quite a funny thing,
It wrinkles up your face,
And when it's gone you never find
Its secret hiding place.

But far more wonderful it is,
To see what smiles can do.
You smile at one, he smiles at you,
And so one smile makes two.

He smiles at someone, since you smile,
And then that one smiles back,
And that one smiles until, in truth,
You fail in keeping track.

And since a smile can do great good,
By cheering hearts of care.
Let's smile and not forget the fact
That smiles go everywhere.

song Bill's

Bill Grogan's Goat

(Audience repeats each line after Leader)

Bill Grogan's goat
Was fellin' fine
Ate three red shirts
Right off the line

Bill took a stick
Gave him a whack
And tied him to
The railroad track

The whistle blew
The train drew nigh
Bill Grogan's goat
Was doomed to die

He gave three groans
Of awful pain
up the shirts
And flagged the train

That's all there is
This story's done
I hope you had
A lot of fun

She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain

She'll be coming 'round the mountain when she comes. (Toot Toot!)

She'll be driving six white horses when she comes. (Whoa back!)

Oh, we'll all go out to meet her when she comes. (Hi babe!)

Oh, we'll kill the old red rooster when she comes. (hack hack!)
Oh, we'll kill the old red rooster when she comes. (hack hack!)
Oh, we'll kill the old red rooster,
Oh, we'll kill the old red rooster,
Oh, we'll kill the old red rooster when she comes. (hack hack!)

Oh, we'll all have chicken and dumplings when she comes. (Yum Yum!)
Oh, we'll all have chicken and dumplings when she comes. (Yum Yum!)
Oh, we'll all have chicken and dumplings,
Oh, we'll all have chicken and dumplings,
Oh, we'll all have chicken and dumplings when she comes. (Yum Yum!)

She'll have to sleep with Granny when she comes. (Snore Snore!)
She'll have to sleep with Granny when she comes. (Snore Snore!)
She'll have to sleep with Granny,
She'll have to sleep with Granny,
She'll have to sleep with Granny when she comes. (Snore Snore!)

song ears

Do your ears hang low?
(Tune: Turkey in the Straw)

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw 'em over your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Do your ears hang high?
Do they reach up to the sky?
Do they droop when they're wet?
Do they stiffen when they're dry?
Can you semifore your neighbor

Use this song to teach student about using a (?) questiong mark at the ending of a question. Next, children make up their own song using questions that begings with ‘who?’, ‘what’? ‘when’?, ‘where’?, ‘why’? and ‘how’?.
